Eye contact is important. Keep eye contact enough that it’s not weird. Be sure that when you are talking to your date; try to look them in the eye.
If they are too good looking that it makes you nervous you can trick your stare by focusing on their eyebrows or their nose if you’re not too close.
If you are really enjoying your conversation the eye contact will be quite natural and become easy for you even if you are nervous. And be mindful that your date might be nervous as well and may hesitate on making direct eye contact. Don’t hold it against them. Once they become more at ease with the setting and more comfortable with you this will not be an issue.
